“Will women always die? Let some men die too,” Dogan told police. “I killed him for my honor.”
Since it was not included in the article, I thought I would provide a rough translation of her historical defense on court;
“When men wear suits and look down they get their sentences lowered; I dont have a suit, my mom barely managed to find this shirt for me. I won’t lie, there is also the joy of being able to survive that i can’t conceal. I’ve walked the corridors of these courthouses countless times, my face covered in bruises, for a restraining order. I didn’t have any other choice. If he hadn’t died, I was going to. He wasn’t going to tell you he had decided to pimp me out, he wasn’t going to talk about his plans of putting me in the arms of other men, he wasn’t going to tell you about the beatings I endured just because the eggplants were slightly overcooked, because the curtains were dirty, because there were leftover crumbs on the table. He wasn’t going to mention how many times I was hospitalized. There is a picture of me taken in the teahouse. I’ve smiled a bit lopsidedly. Maybe he was going to show you that picture and tell you I looked like a dishonorable woman. He was going to tell you he ‘cleansed my honor’ as if he wasn’t planning to pimp me out. You were going to sentence him to 3-5 years and pardon him because i had dishonored him and see my lopsided smile as provocation and feel sad for him. However, honor is mine Mr. Judge, I won’t leave it to anyone else just because I signed a paper.”
her name is Çilem Doğan and she was sentenced to 15 years for this. the court initially wanted to give her life imprisonment. she was released on bail in june 2016 and has since become a symbol for the movement against femicide and violence against women in Turkey.
the translation is accurate - also thanks for translating - but I feel like the post’s missing a vital bit of context: the concept of “honour” is frequently weaponized against women in turkey. reclaiming it the way she does, especially at a court, is a lot more powerful than it sounds.
this is the most sophisticated phishing e-mail I have ever received and if they had sized the logo correctly and actually proofread the fucking thing I probably would’ve clicked that button

Yesterday, Adventure Time celebrated 10th anniversary and to celebrate it I want to discuss of how deep the show is.
The show begins with a 12-year-old boy and his magical dog going on wacky adventures such as Finn facing fears of the ocean, dungeon quest, fighting a giant frog, helping buisnessmen to find work, singing about bacon pancakes and rescueing princesses from the Ice King
BMO finds his father and he found out that he isn’t alone
and Jake facing his fear of the unknown
There’s even episodes that doesn’t involve the main cast but instead, side characters like Cherry Cream Soda giving Root Beer Guy, her ex-husband, a second chance and this time they’ll take their time while before they got married when they were made by PB
Speaking about relationships. Unlike most shows where they used romance as drama and being cute, Adventure Time portrays as it won’t be perfect and sometimes you won’t be able to get the one. Look at Finn, for the first couple of seasons he tries so hard to get with Princess Bubblegum and Flame Princess but due to him being a immature kid, he doesn’t get with them that break his heart
Although he doesn’t end with them but it completely fine because instead of being in a romantic relationship , he rather stay as friends
Also let’s not forget about Marceline and Princess Bubblegum relationship. Although it’s an LGBT representation but instead of treating like it’s rebelious, and special, it’s treated as an everyday heterosexual relationship with the same maintance and pitfalls. They didn’t start out in greatest terms back in season 2 and still have some issues they still need to work out but at season 7 and onward, they reconcile and become a couple
The show glimps being adult won’t be such a bad thing. The adult characters aren’t bland nor comedic but people do have personality that has responsibility to fullfill and tries to find new things like Flame Princess who became queen of the Fire Kingdom but wants to try rapping and be more chill.
Adventure Time is perfect example of a mix of comedy and story. We grew up along side with the show that make us, the viewers, to relate.
It doesn’t shy away to tell in 11 minute episodes about personal topics like abadonment, lost, relationships and many adult themes throughout the show. I know I was late but it’s better to celebrate it now than never for this fantastic show. I can’t wait to see what “Distant Lands” have in stored once it come out!
I know we’ll never grow old together ‘Cause you’ll never grow old to me You’re the pink in my cheeks And I’m scared ‘cause that means I’m a little bit soft But don’t beat yourself up Bonnie Wasn’t just the sun that I was hiding from We were messed up kids who taught ourselves how to live I’m still scared that I’m not good enough
Always felt like a monster Long before I was bit Only seen as a monster Let’s just say I’m used to it I grew tough ‘cause loving only hurt me back But loving you’s a good problem to have And I’m used to that but I could get used to this (Yeah I’m used to that but I could get used to this)
I know we’ll never grow old together And you’ll never grow old to me You’re the pink in my cheeks And I’m scared ‘cause that means I’m a little bit soft You’re the pink in my cheeks And I love that it means I’m a little bit soft (I’m a little bit soft)
Someone with a degree in biology please explain this, is the grouper really cruising for cuddles or are we misinterpreting its behavior?
Because it looks awful cuddly is what I’m saying
Fish are WILDLY intelligent and many are so social that they naturally have social behaviors for interacting with other different species as a whole reef-wide community!! When it comes to interaction with humans, many fish can learn to recognize specific humans and increasingly seek attention such as scratches, rubs and simple play behaviors!
@linddzz can you confirm the fishy desire for skritches?
I’ve had a 4ft goliath grouper come up to me and stare reproachfully until I started giving her scritches and gravel showers. Picking up handfuls of the gravel and gently dropping it over their back is a nice fish massage. We encourage the behavior bc it’s a great time to check over them for any health concerns.
Also this looks like maybe a diver helping with a gravel vac tube. Basically a big siphon used to take junk out of the bottom of tanks.
But yeah this is pretty standard grouper neediness lmao
My betta fish used to love getting little pets
I’ve had 5-6 bettas over the years that have enjoyed cuddles. Half of those would do just about anything to swim into my hand or butt up against my fingers during tank cleaning to “ask” for attention. Fish are smart and some species are very, very sweet if they happen to imprint on you.
